As a lifelong learner, I have endeavored to find relevant, diverse professional development opportunities throughout my career. I have been fortunate in that professional growth is invited and encouraged by my employers, my association, and the Society. Earning a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership, and certificates in School Leadership; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Psychologically Safe Leadership; Giwiidabindimin; and Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution have added “tools to my toolbelt” that I’m continually grateful for.
Attending PD has led to more opportunities for leadership and growth (attending an Orff workshop as a student teacher eventually led to becoming president of Carl Orff Canada – Saskatchewan Chapter!). I’m a big fan of professional development that leads to changes in practice and that challenges my current ways of knowing. Below is a list of some of the growth opportunities I’ve attended over the years. While attendance at PD or reading a book does not make one suitable for leadership, I hope I’ve been a good steward of the knowledge that has been imparted to me in these many opportunities, and that I am able to honour–and bring honour to–the many teachers who have taken the time to share their wisdom, knowledge, and experiences with me through the ways in which I approach the work.
Professional Development – MTS
After attending Professional Development as a member of Provincial Executive, it is typical to write a report to the PX. This serves two purposes: 1) accountability to the Provincial Executive who approve the PD and to members whose dues pay for the costs to attend, and 2) the opportunity to share learnings with the Provincial Executive, Senior Leadership, and Presidents. These reports are always available to presidents through the MyProfile portal.
